- Ticker
- A short, unique code for a company, used everywhere prices are shown.
- Example: MELA is Mela Pay's ticker.
- Order
- An instruction to buy or sell a number of shares of one company.
- Market order
- An order that fills right away at the best prices available now.
- Example: Use it when getting the shares matters more than the exact price.
- Limit order
- An order that only fills at your price or better. Until then it waits in the order book, and you can cancel it.
- Example: A limit buy at 300.00 fills only if someone sells at 300.00 or less.
- Order book
- Every waiting limit order for one company: bids (people buying) and asks (people selling), sorted by price and then by time.
- Bid
- The highest price a buyer is offering right now. It's the most you can sell for immediately.
- Ask
- The lowest price a seller will take right now. It's the least you can buy for immediately.
- Spread
- The gap between the ask and the bid. A small spread means buyers and sellers almost agree on the price.
- Example: If the ask is 326.70 and the bid is 326.40, the spread is 0.30 ETB.
- Trade (fill)
- A buy order and a sell order matching at one price for some number of shares. An order is "filled" once all its shares have traded.
- Last price
- The price of the most recent trade. It's the "stock price" you see on every screen.
- Portfolio
- Your cash plus the shares you hold, with the shares valued at their last price.
- P&L (return)
- Profit and loss: what your portfolio is worth now minus the cash you started with. For one company, it's what your shares are worth minus what you paid.
- Example: Start with 100,000 ETB, be worth 104,000 ETB, and your P&L is +4,000 ETB (+4%).
- ETB (simulated)
- Aksion's money is pretend birr. It can't be added, withdrawn or spent anywhere else, and nothing here costs real money.
